The Daily News apparently ran this less-than-meets-the-eye story suggesting that Jeanine Pirro will run for Senate solely so that they could include the words “catfight” and “Desperate Housewives” in an item about women running for office.

Nevertheless, the Westchester D.A. is worth watching. She’s managed to be a tough-on-crime prosecutor in an era when people (especially in Westchester) aren’t particularly worried about street crime by taking on Internet-based sex predators.

But, as every story about her is obliged to mention, she has a problem: her husband was convicted of tax evasion in 2000, something of which her conservative supporters are only too aware.

“Jeanine just needs one additional qualification,” one of them told us ruefully. “Widow.”
