Portico Protest

Meeting a certain politico on Broadway in the 20s yesterday, near the office that houses Eliot‘s campaign and part of Freddy‘s, we enountered a lone protester with a placard.

At first we thought, “politics.”

But on further examination, it emerged that the guy was picketing a home-furnishing store called Portico. His sign read, “Hell No Portico.”

“They won’t take this couch back from my boss,” the guy explained. “Can you imagine what you have to do in order to piss someone off enough to pay an employee to stand in the middle of the street with a sign all day?”

What industry is this boss in? we asked, though we should have known.

“Real estate,” he said. “He could buy and sell this store if he wanted to.”
