Bloomberg can’t really win politically by talking about welfare policy, which is scrutinized by partisans of both sides but followed little by the majority of voters. So he doesn’t. And as a result, the changes in the way one of the city’s most important programs is run has gone basically uncovered.
But City Limits has finally put together a nuanced look at how he’s shifted away from Giuliani’s work-centric policy toward a more complicated model, and departed from the Giuliani obsession with personal responsibility. To the liberal magazine, it’s a way in which, perhaps, Mike is the “People’s Mayor.” We suspect Jimmy Oddo and the Giuliani-ites will take a different view.
