The Politicker is fickle and hard to please.
Yesterday, it exposed a Miller operative’s request that City Council staffers volunteer on Miller’s Mayoral campaign. The Times reports (classy blog credit and all, thanks) that the email got the staffer, Sophie Milam, fired.
Now The Politicker is deluged by email, mostly from people who are or have been junior staffers, expressing outrage that the volunteer coordinator took the fall. It is certainly true that Council staffers have told The Politicker they felt pressure to work on the Miller campaign well before this email came along, and that the email is legal, if ill-advised.
Here’s a typical one, from an (as these things go) uninvolved observer:
“Gutless and irresponsible. Does anyone actually think this girl was freelancing? How would she have gotten the email addresses? Gifford should take responsibility for flyergate and this incredibly minor matter, not scapegoat some poor staffer.”
There is something a little hapless about this: Days of bad press drive you to the brink, and you chop the head off the most junior female staffer you can find.
OK. The Politicker is quitting early today, like so many others. Have a nice weekend, see you Monday, and if you see any pols, send your sightings to Jess!
