Hey, what gives with Governors Island? Its request for expressions of interest ended June 20 and they still haven’t told us what’s going to be built there.
The Regional Plan Association has taken the initiative and is publicizing the idea it has proposed, along with civic, educational and preservation organizations, on its own.
The Governors Island Alliance, as the coalition is calling itself, would like to build a study center about the harbor’s “renaissance” for schoolkids and visitors. It will feature a 2-acre scale model of the harbor–like a map, a really big map, with water and everything. Take a close look at the picture and you will understand why these guys think New York Harbor has come back–no buildings, traffic or people!
