In a unanimous vote, the City Council passed a bill this afternoon that criminalizes participation in that cherished American spectator sport of throwing beer and balls onto the playing field.

“Up to this point you couldn’t be arrested for throwing beer on someone,” said Peter V. Vallone, who introduced the legislation, which calls for prison sentences of up to a year and fines of up to $25,000 for charging onto the field or otherwise disrupting a game.
