If Jon Corzine decides he wants a Republican in his administration, one possible candidate is Bernardsville Council President Mikael Salovaara. The 52-year-old Dartmouth graduate was a partner with Corzine at Goldman Sachs and later with David Stockman at The Blackstone Group. He retired in 2002 when he ran for Bernardsville Councilman (a post once held by Millicent Fenwick) and was re-elected in 2004. He is one of the Republican members of the New Jersey Highlands Council and serves on several corporate boards, including Circuit City. Salovaara donated to Doug Forrester’s 2002 U.S. Senate race, but has been actively campaigning for Corzine for Governor.
