I wrote last night that the cancellation of Jon Corzine’s apperance at an election eve rally at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton– the traditional final stop for Democrats– might dull the enthusiasm of the Democratic base in a key city. Here’s what a Mercer Democrat told me in an e-mail: “…the rally at Shiloh was NOT canceled last night. It started at 7:30 pm and about 400 people were there. Congressman Pallone spoke, State Dem. Chair Bonnie Watson Coleman spoke, County Exec. Brian Hughes spoke, among many others. It was decided that because of scheduling constraints and live TV commitments, that Sen. Corzine would not appear. He was there the day before on Sunday with Senator (Barack) Obama and spoke to a packed church. That did not dampen the enthusiasim at all.” Maybe so. But my hunch is that crowd came to see Corzine more than it came to see Pallone, Watson Coleman, et al. And I still say if you’re Corzine, you choose Shiloh Baptist over Lynn Doyle.
