Queens Assemblyman Mike Gianaris is dropping out of the race for State Attorney General.
“The fact is, in order for my campaign to have been successful, it would be necessary to engage in a divisive and negative campaign in a crowded field — and that’s not my bag, man,” he emails. “It would cost each candidate millions and would result in a divided party and a sullied nominee. Instead, I have chosen to hold my powder for another day and do what I can to help the Democratic Party sweep the statewide elections next year.”
Gianaris leaves undamaged politically, and with millions in the bank from his not-since-Dukakis forays on the Greek fundraising circuit.
And according to the conventional ethnic math (Greeks, Italians, whatever), this is good news for Andrew.
