With several Democrats seriously scrapping for the Lieutenant Governor nomination, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a serious political stepping stone. History also suggests that: Mario Cuomo, after all, served as LG.
But as Republicans flail about for various statewide candidates, including an Attorney General candidate who must have a legal background, it’s striking that Lieutenant Governor Mary Donohue — a former district attorney and judge — doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s list.
“With all these openings, no one even mentions her,” one state legislator noted today.
It seems that the importance of the Lieutenant Governor’s job has actually diminished. Who knew it was possible?
