Weld’s Fighting Words

Hey! A Republican in New York is attacking…a Democrat. Weird. Thought they’d planned to keep it intramural until sometime around April.

In an interview airing tonight on NY1, Bill Weld notes pointedly that “real prosecutors try their cases.” Eliot, on the other hand, specializes in bringing pressure to force settlements.

There is a coherent argument against Spitzer starting to take shape, but there’s also a tension between its two poles: either he’s ruthlessly destroying New York businesses; or he’s taking it easy on his targets. Merging the Langone and Weld lines will take a bit of finesse, though it is possible. (E.g. If Spitzer can’t even destroy all the jobs he wants to destroy, how can we expect him to govern New York?)
