Take Adler off the list

Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission indicate that State Senator John Adler has put a hold on his plans to run for the United States Senate in 2008. The Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman from Camden County filed a federal campaign account in February 2003, just one month after fellow Democrat Frank Lautenberg resumed his Senate career. Adler has spent $91,724 on the ’08 campaign to date and has $207,568 in his warchest — but raised no money in the fourth quarter of 2005 and just $500 in the third quarter. Two possible reasons why Adler has slowed down: the conventional wisdom is that the 82-year-old Lautenberg will run again in two years; and if he doesn’t, Democrats expect another Camden County Democrat, Congressman Robert Andrews, to run for the open seat.
