Plans for a new building at 341 Canal Street, currently a vacant lot at the corner of Church Street, were withdrawn at a Board of Standards and Appeals hearing yesterday.
Developer Donald Fishoff had plans to construct a six-story, 34-unit apartment building with 35,000 square feet of retail space on three floors. Mr. Fishoff was seeking a variance on zoning because of hardship claims due to contaminated soil cleanup and landmarks height requirements.
Greg Kaufman, who has the Gretsch Building in South Williamsburg under his belt, was the architect for the project. No word yet if Mr. Fishoff has an alternate plan.
