Andrews draws a bye

For the second time in three elections, GOP organization in Camden and Gloucester counties failed to recruit a candidate to run against Congressman Robert Andrews in the first district. There was some confusion in 2002 when the two County Chairmen thought the other was going to find a candidate, so no one filed. Then, each organization ran a write-in candidate in the primary, but none of them wound up getting the minimum 200 write-in votes needed to fill the nomination. A free ride in the general gives Andrews, who is eyeing a future statewide run, the chance to spend his heft warchest on other Democratic candidates.
