The leftwing blogosphere welcomes Walter A. Davis, the brilliant new editor of MWCNews.netMedia With Conscience. Davis is a leftwing philosopher and author and former Catholic. Right now I’m reading his book about 9/11: Death’s Dream Kingdom: The American Psyche Since 9/11.
Davis is earnestly engaged in the great problem on the left: coming up with new ethical ideas, a new moral framework to meet these confusing times. His own words:
Recovering an understanding of the tragic and liberating the tragic from an a-historical essentialistic humanism is, I think, the ultimate task we face in order to complete our entry into history, i.e., to become ethically responsible historical agents who have freed ourselves of all otherworldliness and (to put it in slightly different terms) all transcendental guarantees.
