Brooks Brothers may be next year’s loser

Democratic legislators widely expect at least one casualty to come from the recent budget battle that now appears to be coming to an end: Louis Greenwald, the Camden County Democrat who is Chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee. Once the budget is passed, Greenwald’s panel will have little to do until Governor Jon Corzine delivers his next budget to the Legislature in March 2007. Right now, the conventional wisdom is that Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts will simply merge the Budget Committee with the Assembly Appropriations Committee (that’s the way it had been for years) and Greenwald will simply lose his post through some internal changes aimed at making the Assembly operate more efficiently.
