U.S. Senator Robert Menendez took a week off from the campaign for a vacation at Casa de Campo, a resort in the Dominican Republic. His Republican opponent, Thomas Kean, Jr., took two days off this month to vacation in Bay Head, at Jersey Shore, according to his campaign. “You’d think a guy who wants to be New Jersey’s Senator would spend his vacation connecting with his home state instead of connecting with the rich and famous that vacation at Casa de Campo,” said Jill Hazelbaker, Kean’s spokeswoman. Kean’s father took some heat in the 1980’s when he vacationed at his family home in Fisher’s Island in New York at the same time that he recorded television ads as Governor advocating tourism for New Jersey.
