Our favorite castle is the von Thurn und Taxis abode in Regensburg. The place has more rooms than Buckingham Palace, apparently.
Sadly though, it’s not for sale. Yet if you’re in the market for something nearly as good, Forbes has a great article for you. (Opening sentence: “When Richard Gaylord tells people he lives in a castle, few believe him.”)
The prices of the “twelve captivating castles” are surprisingly modest. Prices dip as far down as $1 million, which will get you a nice slice of nothingness in NYC.
As for the castles of greater New York, our ritzy state is represented in Forbes by “Dark Island” in Alexandria (pictured). For $22 million you get easy access to Canada, lots of secret passageways, stone spiral staircases. And a dungeon. And a private island.
Jersey kids should be very proud that a Montclair estate makes the list–a 9,100-square-foot Medieval mansion, listed at $8.2 million. Not bad, right?
