Is Sharpe James a heartbeat away from Wayne Bryant’s job?

If Senate President Richard Codey does decide to drop Wayne Bryant as Chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee

If Senate President Richard Codey does decide to drop Wayne Bryant as Chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee — as Governor Jon Corzine has suggested he do — don’t expect him to elevate the Vice Chairman to head the panel. That job is held by Sharpe James and Codey is not about to put the former Mayor of Newark — who is also reportedly being probed by federal prosecutors — into such a powerful post. Senate sources say that Codey would be more likely to pick Barbara Buono or Paul Sarlo; both are considered to be Codey allies. Choosing Buono would open up the Chairmanship of the Senate Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee for Ellen Karcher.
