Previte: wrongful behavior not illegal

Mary Previte’s political career ended last year amidst allegations that as the head of the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center, she ordered that fifteen youth wearing electronic monitoring devices to be rounded up so that they would be counted as part of the center’s population and help increase her state funding. Camden County Democrats, slightly concerned that the scandal could endanger Previte’s sixth district Assembly seat, quitely counseled her not to seek re-election to a fifth term in the Legislature. This week, the state Office of Government Integrity issued a report saying that Previte engaged in wrongful behavior, but broke no laws.
