Dems send in B-Team for Stender

Despite some encouraging polling numbers (that the GOP refutes), there are still no signs that national Democrats are smelling victory in the seventh district against GOP Congressman Michael Ferguson. So far, Linda Stender is getting the B-team of surrogates: singer Carole King and Congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania on Friday, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida on Monday, and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut on Wednesday. In recent weeks, three lesser-known Members of Congress — Diana DeGette of Colorado, Earl Blumenaur of Oregon, and Mike Honda of California — have stumped for Stender. (After the 2002 election, DeLauro challenged Bob Menendez for Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and came within one vote of defeating him for the leadership post.)
