Taking a Pass on the Page Scandal

Every Democrat you’ve ever heard of has been hammering upstate Rep. Tom Reynolds — chair of the NRCC — for his downright icky involvement in the Mark Foley scandal.

Everyone except his current opponent, Jack Davis, who has been oddly restrained on the issue. As luck would have it (or not), a Democratic group is picking up the slack with a new site: StopTomReynolds.com, which features this fake IM exchange between Reynolds and a GOP consultant.

I got in touch late yesterday with John Byrne, Young Democratic Rural Conference chairman, who launched the site. He said he was surprised it had fallen to his group to press the attack on Reynolds.

“I can understand why the Democrat running against Tom Reynolds doesn’t want to jump into this,” he said on IM. “But someone needs to hold the RCCC Chairman to account.”

So why, I asked, isn’t Davis pressing the issue?

“He’s a classy guy?”

UPDATE:: Reynolds’s aide quit (or was fired), and a reader notes the state Democratic Party is also aggressively pushing the Reynolds-Foley angle.
