Alan Hevesi called into validity the investigation into his chauffeur scandal when speaking to Cornell students yesterday, saying Albany District Attorney David Soares was “investigating in response to a candidate calling him up three weeks before an election.”

That didn’t sit too well with the Albany District Attorney – who happens to be a Cornell alumni.

A spokeswoman for DA Soares, Rachel Mceneny, told me, “We will not be brought into political theater, and we are not going to follow the electoral time line that Mr. Callaghan or any other parties would like us to follow.” The investigation, she said, “will either result in a finding that we will release to you immediately, or an indictment.”

Soares, by the way, is a Democrat.
