In his own district, Kean won just 54%

Thomas Kean, Jr. won his own legislative disrict by 5,684 votes — 54%-46% — not a great showing for a fairly Republican district, but enough to avoid any real danger of a tough challenge for re-election to the State Senate next year. Kean won his ’03 Senate race by 17,588 votes (69%) margin over Democrat Frank McIntyre, and won a State Assembly seat in 2001 by 15,724 votes over Westfield Mayor Thomas Jardim. Kean carried his hometown, Westfield, by just 396 votes (52%) against Bob Menendez; in 2003, his Westfield plurality was 2,275 votes.
