Make no mistake: Bateman is running for Senate

Assemblyman Christopher Bateman’s public statement that he is too focused on the 2006 General Election to launch a campaign for State Senate ought not detract from his private statements to key GOP leaders that he has decided to run for the State Senate next year, even if incumbent Walter Kavanaugh remains a candidate for re-election. Bateman’s father, former Senate President (and ’77 Republican gubernatorial candidate Raymond Bateman) has made it clear to his friends that his son intends to seek the Senate seat he held from 1968 to 1978.
