Here are a couple of excerpts from tomorrow’s State of the State address that seem to be a continuation of Eliot Spitzer’s rhetorical indictment of the leaders he’ll be working with.
The agenda I just outlined is ambitious. But it will go unrealized if we do not summon the courage to make hard choices in the state’s budget. That’s because, despite a cash surplus expected in the current fiscal year, we are operating in a deficit environment, inherited from a culture that failed to make hard choices.
It is not enough to outline an agenda for change; I want to outline how we must work together to get it done. Because we’re not in this position because of a lack of ideas. We’re in this position because of a lack of leadership.
