Has Wilson lost his mojo?

Some top Republican leaders are suggesting that Bob Stears’ guilty plea has left his former Strategy Group partner, GOP State Chairman Tom Wilson, virtually ineffective. Wilson got the job largely because of his ability to spin — not because of fundraising prowess or ideological support — and his failure to offer partisan comment on Governor Jon Corzine’s State of the State address, former Senate President John Lynch’s criminal conviction, or the special legislative session on property tax reform seemingly takes his major skill off the table. Wilson face faces at least one more obstacle on his path to re-election in June: he is a strong supporter of John McCain’s presidential campaign, and New Jersey supporters of Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney might not want a McCain backer at the helm of the state party operation during a potentially important February primary.
