Menendez no longer the least senior Senator

Senator Robert Menendez has moved from 100th in seniority to 90th today, with the swearing in of ten new United States Senators. Senator Frank Lautenberg, who left office in 2001 and returned in 2003, now ranks 73rd. Had he not retired after his third term, he would rank 17th in seniority and would likely be Chairman of a full Senate committee now that Democrats have taken the majority. For extreme junkies: since Lautenberg first entered the U.S. Senate on December 27, 1982, 128 other men and women have begun their careers as Senators.
