The Case for DiNapoli

A reader passes on this letter being sent around the legislature by comptroller candidateTom DiNapoli in which he talks about improving integrity and reducing — all together now –“waste, fraud and abuse.”

“I am honored and humbled to be considered to fill this vacancy. I also strongly disagree with those who say that no one in the Legislature is qualified to be Comptroller.

“Our State Constitution charges the Legislature — not the Governor or any other entity — with the responsibility to select a new Comptroller. As we grapple with this important decision, it is critical that we do what the Constitution entrusts us to do and select a new Comptroller who embodies the values and virtues we recognize that this high office demands. I know you are carefully weighing the qualifications of the candidates. As we move to a decision, I ask for your support.”

The rest of the letter is here.
