State Senate candidate Teresa Ruiz has tapped one of North Jersey’s most able strategists as her Campaign Manager: Phil Alagia, who has run many successful races in Newark and Essex County. Last year, he directed Anibal Ramos‘ landslide victory over incumbent City Councilman Hector Corchado in Newark’s North Ward.
Alagia will run the Democratic Reform Team slate in the 29th district, where Ruiz — running with Assembly candidates Albert Couhtino and Grace Spencer — will battle Assemblyman William Payne for the State Senate seat now held by Sharpe James.
James has not yet announced his plans for re-election to a fourth term.
The slate has the endorsement of Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Sheriff Armando Fontoura, Assemblyman Thomas Giblin, Freeholder President and Newark Central Ward Democratic Committee Chair Blonnie Watson, Newark North Ward Democratic Committee Chair Fran Adubato, Newark East Ward Democratic Committee Chair Angelo Difederico and Union County Democratic Committee Chairwoman Charlotte Difillipo.
