Democrat Linda Greenstein took some heat from the progressive wing of her party earlier this month when she abstained on Reed Gusciora's resolution opposing President Bush's surge of troops in Iraq. "Greenstein's unwillingness to vote is unconscionable," BlueJersey.com's Juan Melli said at the time. "The stakes are too high to sit this issue out while New Jersey's National Guard and armed forces continue to die or come home gravely injured in what Senator (Chuck) Hagel calls a 'meat grinder' of a war.",
Greenstein, suddenly mullinga State Senate bid, is trying to mend fences with her Democratic base — especially after several groups that have supported her in past Assembly races told her yesterday that they intend to back Republican Bill Baroni for the Senate. She asked for a meeting with some anti-war activists to discuss her vote, which was set for 5PM today at her legislative office in Monroe.
