Ex-Bergen Senator will challenge Bucco

Former State Sen. Frank Herbert will challenge GOP State Sen. Anthony Bucco in the 25th district. Herbert was elected to the State Senate in 1977 in the 39th district — Bergen County — and lost his bid for re-election in 1981 to Gerald Cardinale. He was the Democratic nominee for Congress in 1994 against Rodney Frelinghuysen, winning the Democratic primary as a write-in candidate.

In the 9th district, James LeTellier, the Ocean County Democratic organization candidate for State Senate, faces a primary challenge from Pine Beach Mayor Russell Corby.

In the 18th district, Middlesex GOP organization Senate candidate Daniel Brown is opposed by conservative Andrew Tidd.

State Sen. Nicholas Scutari faces a primary challenge from perennial candidate Bill Campbell.

In district 4, Assemblyman Paul Moriarty and his running mate, former Gloucester Township Mayor Sandra Love, face opposition in the Democratic primary from John Caramanna.

In the 16th, Assemblyman Peter Biondi and his running mate, Somerset County Freeholder Denise Coyle, have a GOP primary opponent: Stan Serafin.
