Meet the Penguins

Penguins are hot (or cool?). Happy Feet is a runaway success, and remember March of the Penguins? If movies aren’t enough, you can see the real thing at the Bronx Zoo, when ten Magellanic penguins waddle toward the bird keeper on April 21 during their afternoon feeding of capelin and herring. “It’s breeding season, so they’re a bit temperamental and don’t come out of their burrows easily,” said Nancy Gonzalez, senior wild-animal keeper, who feeds them by hand twice a day. “But they definitely know exactly what to do when they recognize the bird keeper’s uniform,” which includes fashionable, high-waisted waders. Here’s hoping that Bandit, Ruby, Hook, Springer and Mikey aren’t in a grumpy (or frisky?) mood. Bronx Zoo, Fordham Road at the Bronx River Parkway, http://www.bronxzoo.com
