Welcome the city’s new transportation commission, Janette Sadik-Khan, who worked in the DOT under Dinkins.
On Sadik-Khan’s lap already is that little plan to charge drivers $8 to drive into Manhattan ($21 for trucks). When the topic came up, Bloomberg stepped in to explain that “if we don’t do this now, we’re going to have to do this some day anyways.”
Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff also noted that the city is seeking federal money to help fund this and other transportation programs outlined in PLaNYC. When asked about the sources of "private funds" that may also be used to support the transportation initiatives, Doctoroff said it was an option but declined to get into specifics.
