With Rockaway Beach as a backdrop, Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and others announced that the city is "exploring" the prospect of year-round ferry service from the Rockaways to Manhattan. The service would run Monday to Friday during rush hour, and is part of the 127 proposals from Bloomberg's PlaNYC. As if to emphasize the need for the proposed ferries, it took almost an hour for the press van to get out here.
