Gettleman released in Ethiopia

New York Times Nairobi Bureau Chief Jeffrey Gettleman, who covered New Jersey politics in 2005, was arrested last week and interrogated at gunpoint by the Ethiopian military. He was released on Monday after five days, the New York Times reported today.

They had entered the Ogaden region — "a contested area of eastern Ethiopia, close to the border with Somalia, where the Ethiopian government is confronting separatist rebels" — on a journalists' visa. Their computers, cameras, cell phones and notebooks were confiscated and have not been returned.
