Today's Steve Some Self-Promotion Award goes to Hamilton Mayor Glen Gilmore, who issued a press release today announcing that the Netherlands Ministry of Defense has awarded him the Dutch Military Jump Wings — three years after breaking his pelvis and collar bone in a Netherlands parachute jump. Gilmore made his unsuccessful 2004 jump as part of a military friendship parachute program.

“It’s a great honor to be awarded the wings of an Airborne force that showed great courage in World War II and, more recently, in assisting America in Afghanistan," said Gilmore, carefully noting that the day before he was injured, he helped another jumper who broke his leg onto a helicopter. “Both of us agreed that despite our injuries, we were glad to have shared the camaraderie of the airborne.”
