Responding to a post in PoliticsNJ.com's The Inside Edge, Assemblyman Richard Merkt says that Susan Bass Levin should find a place to live in New Jersey, and cancel plans to live in New York City. "I find it ironic — and more than a bit disturbing — that someone just nominated by Governor Corzine to be New Jersey's Port Authority commissioner should reportedly be looking to move to New York. Commissioner Bass Levin is being nominated to represent New Jersey's interests in the Port Authority, yet, at the very moment she is being named for such an important task, she is apparently looking to take up residence in the other state in the Port Authority compact," Merkt said. "I would urge Commissioner Bass Levin to remain a New Jersey resident so long as she represents our state in the Port Authority.
"Appearances matter for public officials, and it simply does not look right to the people of New Jersey to have their Port Authority commissioner residing in a state whose interests periodically conflict with those of New Jersey," said Merkt.
