CATE THE GREAT! It’s that time of the year again, the Metropolitan Museum of Art thingy that all the socialites go bonkers for. This year, her icy highness Anna Wintour has chosen the lovely Cate Blanchett to be her celebrity co-chair—we can’t wait to see what Ms. Blanchett will wear! Paul Poiret will be the designer on display when the exhibit opens to the masses later this week. Expect anyone who’s anyone, blah blah blah. Competing for the glitteracy award is the Literacy Partners’ “An Evening of Readings” at the New York State Theater. Maybe not quite as glam as the Vogue thing, though this shebang features readings by über-talented Vanessa Redgrave and others, and will honor the lovely Liz Smith and cute couple Parker Ladd and Arnold Scaasi. Tons of fancy names (a von Furstenberg, a Boardman and a Welch), so we imagine there will be a lot of high society double-dipping tonight. And lastly, it’s the Publishing Triangle Awards, honoring the best lesbian and gay fiction, nonfiction and poetry in ‘06. Why do we think that this one is going to be the most fun one of all?

[Metropolitan Museum of Art and Vogue gala, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, by invitation only (don’t even think about it); Literacy Partners, An Evening of Readings, New York State Theater, 20 Lincoln Center, 212-573-6933; Publishing Triangle Awards, Tishman Auditorium of the New School for Social Research, www.publishingtriangle.org.]
