Saturday, June 9th

This little piggy … oh boy! It’s time for the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in the Danny Meyer–dominated Madison Square Park. This is when a group of meat-eaters descend into Shake Shack territory, including the mysteriously named “pitmasters” (would we!) from all over the country. There will be offerings from Blackjack BBQ from Charleston, S.C., Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q from Decatur (we just met her!), Ala., and—our favorite name yet—the Salt Lick BBQ from Driftwood, Tex. Yee-haw! There will also be seminars and cooking demonstrations and basically a meat-eating frenzy—though nothing like the frenzy out in the ho-ho-Hamptons as busloads and BMW-loads of New Yorkers push and shove their way through another humiliating weekend …. Switching boroughs for a second, Atlantic Avenue will probably also smell funka-meat-a-licious for their annual Atlantic Avenue Artwalk, which goes on today and tomorrow. It’s a free festival of arts, featuring over 175 emerging and established artists, projects, studio tours and a chance to eat food en plein air, if you’re French.
