Would Woody? You Bet! The uncomfortable seats at the Film Forum just won’t matter as the good folks there hustle out a new 35MM print of Woody Allen’s Manhattan. Prepare yourself for long lines of bearded intellect-sters drinking chai tea with Granta under one arm, explaining to their much younger, pale, nervous, yoga-mat-clutching dates why this film, rather than Annie Hall, is the great valentine to our fair city. More movie stuff up at the Film Society at Lincoln Center with a two-week showcase, “Leading the Charge: Woodfall Film Productions and the Revolution in ’60s British Cinema.” Tonight the venerable Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave, along with Michael Sheen (who we will always think of as Tony Blair thanks to last year’s The Queen), introduce the screening of Tom Jones. All this talk about Brits and cinema and we don’t even get one whiff of Peter O’Toole? Sheesh.
