Polo, Marco? Sure, the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge in Bridgehampton might be packed with strivers and stooges and a handful of slick, horned-up, gonorrhea-galloping polo players, but we don’t care because Debra Messing (The Starter Wife was really kinda awesome) is hosting the opening ceremonies. Elsewhere in Bridgehampton, more dotty socialites talk about terra cotta at the Hampton Designer Showhouse Gala Preview Cocktail Party—hic! In attendance will be chronic bad-husband-chooser Christie Brinkley, fun-named Celerie Kemble, Kelsey and Camille Grammer, and Audrey and Martin Gruss. Still need more? Inexplicably the “Hats for Hope, a Madcap Event!” always amuses us, taking place at the Roberta Freymann boutique in East Hampton, and those that go might get a glimpse of the headwear that Katie Couric has designed for charity (how about a jaunty “Anchors Away!” cap!) Other amateur designers include Caroline Rhea, ever-hot Candice Bergen and the cast of Legally Blonde (the musical, sadly, not the movie). For those left sweating back here in Manhattan, celebrate Central Park’s 154th birthday at 8:30 a.m.! And by “party” we mean four-mile “fun run.” Who wants a pet squirrel?
