Bob Schroeder loves New Jersey, and he’s not letting beachgoers forget it.
The Washington Township Council President, who placed fifth in his bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2005, still has a small plane fly his trademark “Bob Schroeder Loves New Jersey 2007” banner up and down the Jersey Shore several times per week. But Schroeder, who said he’s flown the banner for the past few years, said not to take it as a sign of a second bid for Governor in 2009.
“I’m just keeping my name in circulation. There’s absolutely no political calculation behind it,” said Schroeder, who mentioned that complete strangers have called him for help with government issues, both local and statewide, because they saw his name on that banner.
That’s not to say that Schroeder has ruled out the possibility of running again. But between his job, his presidency of the Washington Township Council and helping to restructure the Bergen County Republican Organization, he’s not thinking that far ahead.
“I’ve always helped people and I will continue to help people whether I’m in office or not in office.”
