Jazz blooms downtown: Remember the good old days when Washington Square Park was nothing but drug dealers and wacked-out college kids? Now we have jelly beans, labradoodles and jazz. Today the Charles Mingus Orchestra plays music by the great man himself. For those whose musical tastes run over the aside of the plate like maple syrup on board a heaving ship in a storm, late 1990’s favorite Chris Cornell—crazy hair now shorn—plays at the Beacon Theatre. Oh, please, please, please let him play the James Bond song!
