Bramnick mulling U.S. Senate bid

The withdrawal of Assemblyman Michael Doherty from the 2008 GOP U.S. Senate primary leaves Assemblyman Joseph Pennacchio as the conservative candidate in the race to challenge Frank Lautenberg. Unless someone else gets in the race — Assembly Minority Whip Jon Bramnick is reportedly considering a U.S. Senate bid — Pennacchio would face Anne Evans Estabrook, a millionaire real estate developer and former New Jersey Chamber of Commerce President, in next year’s GOP primary. Pennacchio, a dentist from Morris County, is expected to win a State Senate seat in November. He is running in a safe Republican district.
