Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero has endorsed Assemblyman Bob Gordon to fill the state Senate ballot position left vacant by Joe Coniglio.
“Obviously it was a difficult choice because we had outstanding candidates, and any one of them would make an excellent Senator,” said Ferriero. “But based on Bob’s experience, dedication and commitment to the people of New Jersey, I picked him.”
Gordon was under consideration along with Assembly running mate Joan Voss and Paramus Mayor James Tedesco.
The endorsement makes it likely that the county committee will choose Gordon when it convenes tomorrow night to pick a candidate to replace Coniglio, who announced earlier this week that he would not seek re-election to the state Senate.
Ferriero has not yet announced who he wants to fill the Assembly ballot position that will be left vacant by Gordon’s elevation.
If the BCDO confirms Ferriero's choice, Gordon will face off against Republican state Senate candidate Robert Colletti in November's general election.
