Where’s the testicular fortitude from the blue team?

Some more empirical evidence that Democrats are scared to death of the front runner for the 2009 Republican gubernatorial nomination: none of the political spokesmen have said a word on the record about U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie's announcement yesterday that former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroftwould serve as a court-appointed monitor of five medical device implant companies who have settled a $300 million lawsuit.

In the month that precedes the general election, there is no shortage of Democratic campaigns seeking to link local Republican candidates with President George W. Bush, but there is no comment on Ashcroft, usually a lightening rod for Democrats in Blue Jersey, getting a lucrative gig that comes from an essentially no-bid contract awarded at the suggestion of his former employee.

This is no surprise: when Christie called Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler a "third rate bureaucrat" last summer, nobody said a word.
