The Assembly Democrats softball team won the Golden Dome League championship last night, defeating X, the state Division of Taxation team by a score of 19-11. This is the second championship in three years for Speaker Joe Roberts' team.

The Assembly Dems pounded out 27 hits in route to their win. Assembly Dems were down 5-0 after the 1st and 10-9 heading into the fourth inning before Speaker Roberts' staffer Jason Gonzalez, who had three hits on the day, held XTax to just 1 run in the final 4 innings he pitched. Wisniewski chief of staff Evan Piscetelli turned a key fourth inning double play with Asm. Dave Mayer's chief of staff Ethan Hasbrouck. Former ADO intern Jeff Martin and former Gusciora chief of staff Jeff Kolakowski had four hits each and ADO staffers Lauren Repole and Jimmy Jefferson had diving plays in the field. Sarah Ryan, who had been kicked off the Senate Democrats softball team in the beginning of the year and then joined the Assembly Dems, had a key hit in the 4th inning that sparked a rally that put the game away.

Softball teams from the offices of Senate President Richard Codey and Gov. Jon Corzine were eliminated earlier, and the staffs from the Senate and Assembly Republican offices did not field teams this year. In some cases, talented GOP staffers played for Democratic teams. The Golden Dome Softball league was started in 1984 by then-Assembly Republican Executive Director and now lobbyist Brad Brewster. Assembly Democrats win championship
