Guys, we’re so pumped for tonight’s CMJ festivities, we can barely contain our inner-teenage selves from knocking over some newsstands and getting a tattoo with some kind of heart and unicorn-related theme. Horray for high school nostalgia courtesy of Jersey!
Okay, so maybe we’re getting a little excited about CMJ now that it’s finally here. We’ll be schlepping around town to check out these events. You should too.
If you’re not still working through last night’s hangover (get a bagel and some Emergen-C, it works!), check out NYC’s own Vampire Weekend (they write cute ditties about punctuation?) and London’s Nick Drake-influenced Jack Penate at 1 p.m., bright and early, at the Cake Shop.
At 6 p.m., jingly guitar heroes The Walkmen will join Mates of State at the (free!) show at Avalon at 7 p.m. Get misty-eyed listening to Mates of State’s cover of that O.C. song on their MySpace page. Sniff.
Whoa, get ready to have your mind blown at the Bowery Ballroom at 7 p.m. This is one stellar line-up: Deerhunter, Dan Deacon and No Age all in one night? We might pass out from the awesomeness. Check out this video of No Age’s “Boy Void.”
Otherwise, Oh My Rockness is throwing a decent event at the Knitting Factory at the same time. We highly recommend getting your dance on to Team Robespierre, We Are Wolves and Ida Maria at that show.
Speaking of dancing, keep the spirit alive at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel, where Fool’s Gold Records will feature A-Trak (Kanye West’s DJ), DJ Mehdi, Kid Sister, The Cool Kids, Kavinsky and Nick Catchdubs will be spinning the best booty-bouncing jams you can imagine. Oh, shiny!
Unfortunately, the Fool’s Gold show might sell out so definitely head over to Happy Ending, where there is an open bar from 11-12 and you can slip on your Vans for The Pack, Vyle & Hollywood Holt, with resident DJs Cousin Cole, Rezound, Rev. McFly, DJ Morsy and Teenwolf.
* [NEW!] Also! Don’t miss the Eyeball Records showcase at Fontana’s starting at 7 p.m. Middle Distance Runner, No More Kings, The Casting Out, Search/Rescue, Stiletto Formal and New Atlantic will display their Jersey pride!
Have fun, kids!
