PoliticsNJ.com is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael P. Riccards as a regular columnist. Prior to joining the Hall Institute of Public Policy – New Jersey as Executive Director, Riccards was the Public Policy Scholar of the College Board in Washington D.C., where he was responsible for public policy analysis and liaison with elected and appointed government offcials. He worked closely with elected representatives, college presidents and educators, as well as with organizations such as the National Governors Association, the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Dupont Circle higher education associations.
He previously served as the president of three different colleges – Fitchburg State College, Shepherd College and St. John's College. In addition, he has been a Fulbright Fellow to Japan, a Henry Huntington Fellow, a State Department Fellow and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at Princeton University. He also has been the Special Assistant to the Chancellor of Higher Education in New Jersey and worked for the Institute of Labor-Management Relations at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. T
he author of 14 books, Riccards' best known composition, Ferocious Engine of Democracy, is a two-volume history of the American Presidency. He holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University in political science. He also earned his M.A. and B.A. degrees at Rutgers. He lives in Hamilton Township.
